1. Expert Team:
WineFi's team blends experience within financial services and technology with deep wine trade expertise. Our leadership team has experience within asset management, crowdfunding and in scaling venture-backed businesses.
Our Investment Committee represents a "Who's Who" of the global wine trade, comprising two Masters of Wine (of which there are only 416 in existence) and two professional wine investors.
These include the former Buying Director at Berry Bros. and Rudd and the former CEO of WineGB.
Michael Saunders, the CEO of Coterie Holdings and co-founder of Bibendum, sits on our board of directors.
πTeam2. Asset Selection Process:
Our selection process is supplemented by market-leading data science to identify wines representing deep value, from an investable universe of 350 producers.
The wine markets are notoriously inefficient (run by merchants, not investors) and our extensive use of data-driven analysis helps identify mis-priced assets, and opportunities for geographic arbitrage.
We start by narrowing down the investment universe, identifying wines which consistently yield highest returns. This might be specific producers, labels, vintages or appellations. Burgundy, for example, tends to be more producer driven - particular producers are likely to perform well across most of his/her labels and vintages. In contrast, Bordeaux can be more vintage or critic driven.
Next we give each wine an investment ranking based on our proprietary performance model, accounting for historical performance, liquidity, momentum and reliability of the data. The highest ranked wines represent labels for which supply most consistently outstrips demand and because production quantities are limited, will continue to do so.
Having accounted for vintage quality as evidenced by aggregated critic score, we target vintages that are relatively under priced compared to others of the same label and which lie within our investment window. Our recommendations are then given to our Investment Committee to construct into portfolios.
As a WineFi partner, we will provide you with access to an investment dashboard, offering you the ability to track the estimated performance of your client's portfolios in real time (both aggregated and on an asset-by-asset basis).
We use a third-party API that pulls the lowest market price, ensuring these valuations remain objective.
π·Coterie Holdings3. Brokerage Channels
Our relationship with Coterie Holdings gives us access to sourcing and brokerage channels for fine wine off-limits to all but the largest wine merchants.
Not only are we uniquely placed to source quality assets at attractive valuations, at scale - but we also are able to access numerous brokerage channels when the time is right to sell to maximise returns.
These channels include other WineFi clients, wine merchants and private clients within the Coterie Holdings ecosystem, or the open market. We typically avoid auction houses due to high fees.
4. Detailed Reports:
As wine investors ourselves, we have been frustrated by a lack of quality investment analysis surrounding fine wine as an asset class which has made it difficult for investors to compare like for like.
To bridge that gap, we provide you with market analysis, commentary, performance updates and educational resources, to ensure that you and your client base are kept updated.
